8 Things Students Can Expect From Their Accommodation

Going into your new living quarters, you never really know what to expect. Instead of trying to figure it out as you go along, you can have a pretty good idea of what you’re going to get before you get there by going through this quick guide covering all the major aspects of residing here.

Modern Facilities

Through constant refurbishing and renovations, you can be sure that you’re going to get up-to-date quality living quarters. The residences offer spacious living areas, modern kitchen and bathrooms, and quality appliances. Your unit will also be well-furnished so you don’t have to worry about bringing any bulky pieces with you. Free Wi-Fi is provided at most locations so that you can complete your studies necessary from your computer, laptop, tablet, or another device without worrying about finding your own internet provider.

Depending on the property that you choose, there are different amenities and appliances that may be included like:

  • Dishwasher
  • Washer and dryer
  • Luxury shower
  • Luxury kitchen
  • Lounge
  • And much more!

There are various unit sizes available from a one-bedroom studio apartment to a house that will fit five or seven of your closest friends. If you are going to school with a big group of people, there are frequently properties located next to each other or very short distances apart so that everyone can stay in the same neighborhood.

Safety and Security

The tradesmen that work for the properties are honest, trustworthy, friendly, and reliable individuals. When you call for help, the person responding is going to have to enter your home. You will be given a manual with every employee’s photo identification so you can be confident you are letting the right person in.

Each of the units provided to students come equipped with smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors for your protection. All are licensed where legislation dictates it. Energy Performance Certificates have been awarded to every property as well.

Parking Facilities

Some of the properties offer parking facilities. You may or may not need a permit to house your vehicle there, depending on the location. There is also street parking located in nearly every area where you do not require a permit to leave your car.

Central Location

If you don’t have a vehicle, or if you choose not to bring one with you for one reason or another, you don’t have to worry too much about how you are going to get around. You will find that you are fairly centrally located in the city where all the shopping, eating, and entertainment takes place. You are also within close distance to both The University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University.


It’s expected that at some point during your stay, something is going to malfunction. It could be a stove, refrigerator, oven, or any other appliance or fixture in your new home. If it happens, you can check the provided manuals for information on how to repair the problem yourself. When you aren’t the do-it-yourself type of person, you can call the office to have someone come and take care of it for you.

Renter’s Insurance

You are required to get your own insurance to cover the belongings you plan to keep on the property with you. The building is insured; however, if something were to happen such as a fire, you want to make sure that your property gets replaced. Some of the units come with a flat-screen television installed. If you select a property that includes this amenity, you are also responsible for covering that piece of equipment.

Utility Responsibilities

You are responsible for the registration and payment of all your utilities including water, gas, and electric for most properties. When you move in, you have to call each individual company and have the service set up in your name or the name of someone living with you. They will generally ask you for a reading so that they can start the billing from that point forward.

This can be a bit of a confusing task for someone that’s never done it before. If you have any questions about how the process works, there is always someone willing to help you through each step. All you have to do is call the office during normal business hours or have it set up prior to moving in while going through your lease agreement paperwork.

Fast and Friendly Staff

You have a lot of responsibility on your shoulders already. You went from living at home with your parent’s helping you every step of the way. Now that you are on your own, there’s nobody there to pick up the pieces when things go wrong. That is except for our fast and friendly employees.
